As a Structured Cabling Technician, you will be the backbone of our network installations, ensuring that every UniFi deployment has a solid, professional-grade physical infrastructure. Your cable work will be the foundation upon which reliable networks are built.

Your responsibilities will include:

Site Preparation: Survey installation sites to determine cable routing paths, identify potential obstacles, and plan the most efficient and aesthetically pleasing cable runs. Coordinate with clients and building management regarding access and any necessary permits.

Cable Installation: Run Cat6/Cat6A cabling through various environments including drop ceilings, walls, conduit, and outdoor enclosures. Maintain proper cable handling techniques to preserve performance characteristics and prevent damage.

Termination & Testing: Terminate cables to patch panels, keystone jacks, and RJ45 connectors following TIA/EIA standards. Use professional testing equipment to certify all cable runs, documenting test results for client records.

Rack & Cabinet Work: Install network racks, wall-mount cabinets, and organize patch panels. Create clean, professional cable management using appropriate cable managers, velcro ties, and labeling systems.

Low Voltage Integration: Work alongside security and access control installations to provide cabling for cameras, access readers, and other low-voltage devices. Understand power over Ethernet (PoE) requirements and distance limitations.

Pathway Management: Install cable trays, J-hooks, and conduit as needed. Ensure all cable pathways meet code requirements and allow for future expansion.

Documentation: Create detailed as-built documentation including cable schedules, labeling schemes, and floor plans showing cable routing. Provide clients with organized records of their cabling infrastructure.

Quality Standards: Maintain the highest standards of workmanship with attention to cable bend radius, separation from electrical interference, and professional appearance. Your work should look as good as it performs.

Problem Solving: Troubleshoot cabling issues including signal degradation, crosstalk, and connectivity problems. Use professional diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues efficiently.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in structured cabling installation
  • Knowledge of TIA/EIA cabling standards and best practices
  • Proficiency in cable termination (RJ45, patch panels, keystone jacks)
  • Experience with cable testing and certification equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • Knowledge of NEC codes for low voltage installations
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • BICSI certification preferred but not required
