As a UniFi Access Technician, you will design and install modern, credential-based door entry systems using Ubiquiti's UniFi Access platform. You'll replace aging lock-and-key setups with auditable, centrally managed access control for offices, warehouses, multi-tenant buildings, schools, and multi-building campuses.
Your responsibilities will include:
Site Assessment & Door Survey: Walk each opening with the client to document door type, frame material, swing direction, and existing hardware. Identify which doors need electric strikes, magnetic locks, or electrified levers, and flag any that require carpentry, core drilling, or conduit before installation can begin. Produce a door schedule that becomes the basis for the quote and the install plan.
Hardware Installation: Mount UniFi Access Hubs, readers, and door position sensors, then wire strikes, maglocks, request-to-exit devices, and power supplies back to the hub. Run and terminate Cat6 to PoE switches, keeping cable runs clean, labelled, and supported to commercial standards. Work confidently with both new construction and retrofit openings where you inherit someone else's wiring.
Controller Configuration & Network Integration: Adopt hubs into the UniFi Access application, assign readers to doors, and verify every device reports healthy. Coordinate with the networking team on VLAN placement, PoE budget, and firewall rules so access hardware sits on the right segment and keeps working when the internet does not.
Credentials & Access Policies: Build the schedules, holiday calendars, and access groups that decide who gets through which door and when. Issue and enrol NFC cards, fobs, and mobile credentials, configure PIN and multi-factor options where required, and set up visitor and delivery access. Get the policy structure right the first time so administration stays simple as the client grows.
Life Safety & Code Compliance: Ensure every opening meets egress requirements — free egress hardware, fail-safe versus fail-secure selection appropriate to the door, and correct interface with the fire alarm system so locks release on alarm. Respect ADA clearance and operating-force requirements. This is the part of the job where getting it wrong is not an option, and we back you with training and senior review.
Integration & Client Onboarding: Link UniFi Access with UniFi Protect so door events tie to camera footage, and configure the alerts and unlock rules the client actually wants. Train administrators on adding and revoking users, reading the audit log, and handling a lockout at 6am. Leave behind documentation they can follow without calling us.
Maintenance & Support: Perform firmware updates, battery and lock-cycle checks, and periodic audits of stale credentials. Troubleshoot intermittent reads, door-forced and door-held alarms, and hardware faults, and explain clearly to the client what failed and what you did about it.
